Muscat Rugby Club

Doha v MRFC 30 Sep 2016

MRFC travelled to Doha with 19 players, all looking to make an impact in the first round of the Gulf Conference. Having struggled in travelling the last few years, the lads were determined to get off to a winning start.
Muscat kicked off into a strong wind and the first 10 minutes was played between the two 10m lines with both teams settling into it. Doha had clearly come out with a game plan to use the wind and pin Muscat back, kicking over the top continuously in the opening exchanges, Muscat dealt with the pressure well. Muscat started to gain some ascendancy at the set piece; the scrum impressive all evening, whilst the lineout was a constant source of possession with Jamie Houston bringing his throwing arm, to hit his man time after time.
Muscat had a penalty shot at goal in the 15th minute after some good defensive work at the breakdown, Guillaume Deejan just sliding the ball to the left of the posts. From the resulting drop out, Muscat kept the pressure and secured another penalty slightly wider than the first. The decision was corner and a great kick by Guillaume Deejan had Muscat with their first attacking platform. A good throw to the middle of the lineout saw Braden Hern take the ball and the drive set, good defence spoiled and as Muscat started to retreat, Karl Rasmussen broke smartly from the back to drive through three Doha defenders and score the first try, and Guillaume Deejan with a great kick to make it 7 points.
Muscat started to pin Doha back, with scrum half Ben Cullum directing the plays, and a strong backline move saw Aaron Milmeister and Alex Maxton break down the left wing. Inside their 22 the ball came lose and was picked up by the Doha defence, but a tenacious defence saw efectos de viagra en jovenes Muscat push Doha back behind their line, a huge tackle from Ronan Glennon forcing a mistake allowing Dillan Karelse to dot down for his first league try for Muscat. Guillaume Deejan converted again for a 14-0 lead. The final 15 minutes of the first half saw Doha using the strong wind to help put pressure on Muscat and keep them well within their own half. Muscat defended bravely, however fatigue led to mistakes; two resulting penalties allowed Doha to kick for points rather than continuing to try and break down a solid Muscat defence or attempt to beat the strong defensive lineout, making the score line 14-6 at half time.
Doha kicked off the second half with Zak Harper carrying back strongly. buy levitra uk real Muscat recycled and Joey Maniel popped a nice ball to Karl Rasmussen who screamed through a gap, ran past the covering winger and put an audacious chip over the Doha fullback. Chasing the kick hard the bounce favoured the other defender chasing back but great commitment saw Karl push him over the line for a 5m Muscat scrum. Following which, Muscat continued to add pressure with multiple phases, and were awarded a penalty 5m from the Doha line. Thinking quick, Guillaume Deejan tapped and went, passing to Alex Maxton who in turn fed Saleh Al Busaidi for an easy run in, just the start Muscat needed.
Muscat spent the next 10 minutes putting pressure on in the Doha half. Doha keeping Muscat at bay and with it being the first game of the season Muscat made some handling errors. Muscat secured a great turnover on half way, with the Muscat pack counter rucking to superb effect. The backline moved the ball and put Dillan Karelse into space who rounded the Doha outside centre, breaking through and a great left footed step taking him round the full back and under the posts for his second try and the bonus point try for Muscat!
There was 20 minutes left in the game and with the game taking it’s toll Pete Maxton, Phil Braban and Guillaume Backe were sent on to see out the game, replacing Alex Maxton, Ben Cullum and Saleh Al Busaidi. With 10 minutes to go, and Muscat tiring, Doha broke down the left wing and recycled possession to score out wide, conversion missed.
The try spurred on Muscat to see the game out and the game achat cialis en espagne was tightened up as Muscat held possession and pushed forward, sadly they couldn’t add to the scoreline as the referee blew the whistle with the game ending Doha 11 – Muscat 29
A great first away win in 3 years for Muscat, and with a 5 week break until the next game Muscat and Coach Hooley have plenty of time to continue the squad development. The next fixture sees Muscat host Kuwait on November 11th at home, a game in which we hope you can all come down to watch and support the lads.
